25.9 Things Left To Do?

I never got into the routine of reading for pleasure so #18 on my list was to read some books. I figure this “30 Things” quest of mine would be the best time to start a good habit that would hopefully last beyond my 30’s. There are ten books that I’ll be reading meaning finishing one book leaves me 25.9 things left to do.

This guy recommended “Catcher In The Rye” by JD Salinger when I was in the eighth grade and I’ve gone through it four more times since then. The book becomes increasingly enjoyable every time I read it and I'm always getting something new out of it. Initially I rooted for Holden and felt that the world was as phony as he described it. Now I see him as a major ass with major issues and after he’s done seeing his psychoanalyst I think he’ll go on a murderous rampage. Then again, if I’m old with kids that are his age I might be a little more sympathetic if I were to read the book again.

So what if anything have I learned from reading this book for the 5th time? I learned that the few minutes you spend on the crapper each day is a great time to catch up on your reading. Sure it took me a few weeks to finish the book because I only read it while dropping the kids off, but it was definitely time well spent. Before it was Maxim Mag and PC Mag while on the holy bowl but now I feel my time is better spent reading something with a bit more substance.

So there you have it, 4.1 things done, only 25.9 things left to do. Until then…
