16.5 Things To Do - #5 Run A half MARATHON

Back in college I had the pleasure of working out with all pro running back LT. We ran a few miles around Westwood, did some stairs at Drake, and topped it all off with a few ab exercises. LT was in the middle of training for the LA marathon and so the three activities that we did were really just a warm up. But I was so exhausted after this warm up that I gave up, I swore off any type of long distance running, and I refused to workout with LT ever again.

#5 on my list was to run a half marathon. This past weekend I ran in the San Jose Rock and Roll Half Marathon. Over 11,000 people from 44 states and 11 countries flocked to downtown San Jose to run 13.1 miles and listen to a little Rock and Roll as they did it. It took me 2 hours 14 minutes and 54 seconds to finish. That averages to about 10:19 per mile and places me in the 43rd percentile for my age group. Click here for my detailed stats. If you know anybody else that participated in this event then click here to look them up and check out their times.

Thanks to LT for making me feel like such a girlie-man many years ago. The humiliation I felt that afternoon ultimately turned into motivation towards this marathon and for that I’ll forever be thankful. I’ve yet to workout with LT since that terrible day but I’d like to think that if we ever do go running again that I could actually keep up.

So there you have it, 13.5 things done, 16.5 things to go. Until next time…
