In the year 2000 I was planning on going to Paris for somemartial arts event. Things ended up not working out for one reason or another and I ended up not going. I have always regretted not doing that martial arts event and Paris has been on my mind ever since.
#2 on my list was to drink wine in Paris. I spent my winter break in The City of Lights and had enough wine each day to turn my poo black.
New Years Eve on the avenue de Champs-Élysées was a weird experience. I hung out on this world famous avenue with thousands of other people and expected a crazy party but nothing ever happened. There was no fireworks extravaganza (other than the few little fireworks that you see in the video below) and there was no countdown. People just hung out on the streets and left a few hours later. I was expecting to see something crazy based on the number of people that were out and about but I guess nothing ever really happens on this street on NYE.
The most impressive thing in Pariswasn’t the Mona Lisa or the EiffelTower but was probably the Metro system. The Metro stops were everywhere, the longest we had to wait for a train was 4 minutes, and not one person tried to pick my pocket. Or maybe that’s what they want me to believe.
A very special thanks toGem for coming to Paris with me and not letting my OCD or my inability to read a map piss her off too much. The seven days worth of memories and experiences completely pushed aside the regret that I’ve felt for the last 10 years.
So there you have it. 14.5 things done, 15.5 things to go. Until next time…
1) oh, your poo wasn't already black? 2) yes, that was a weird NYE 3) I'd like the Bart to work like the Metro 4) make your pictures bigger Jimbo Slice. pictures are cool.
1) no no, on a good day the poo is dark brown 2) very weird. i learned how to count backwards in french too. oh well. 3) totally agree 4) will do. thanks for the help.
Hi, stumbled across your blog a while ago. I love ticking things off lists and think your blog concept is brilliant! Here's a comment just to say you're being followed from Australia (hopefully in a non-stalkerish way)
Paris sounds fun, can't wait to go there one day. Had a silent laugh re. worse dish in Paris. Hehe
hey there, thank you both for following the blog. it's good to know that i'm not typing into a vacuum. if i'm ever down under and lose a filling i'll know where to go. and if i ever need to sue that dentist from down under then i'll also know where to go.
Welcome to my corner of the web where I chronicle my journey of doing 30 various things before I turn 30. Currently there are 13.5 things left to do. Due date: 11/11/11
